HIROKO YOSHIMOTO
Hiroko Yoshimoto was born and raised in Japan. She was educated in the U.S. and received her MA in Art from UCLA with the highest honors at graduation. She became a US citizen in 1978. She taught studio art courses at Ventura College, Ventura, CA.
She has been a practicing and exhibiting artist since graduation. The following list indicates her important solo and group exhibition venues: the Ventura County Museum of Art and History (a 20-year retrospective), Carnegie Art Museum, Oxnard, CA, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Center, Osaka Contemporary Art Center, Los Angeles County Museum of Art Rental and Sales Gallery(‘87 & ’04, ‘09), Schneider Art Museum at Southern Oregon University (’10), Santa Barbara City College, Ventura College, Buena Ventura Gallery, Wing Luke Museum in Seattle, Studio Channel Island Art Center Mentor to Many (‘04), Carnegie Museum, L.A. Artcore Gallery, L.A. Municipal Art Gallery, and many other private galleries. Some of her solo shows were the result of merit awards in art competitions and grant awards.
She continues to serve the community in many ways. She is currently serving as a member of the Fine Arts Committee at the Museum of Ventura County and was an advisory board member for the Ventura County ArtsLIVE. She was the Ventura Chamber Music Festival Visual Art Director in 1996 and ’98; the costume and stage set designer for Ventura College and Ventura County Master Chorale & Opera Association’s opera and dance productions: a member of the Ventura Municipal Art Acquisition Committee and on the advisory board for SCIART. She was one of the founders of Studio 83 and Ventura College Friends of the Arts. She has juried and curated many art exhibitions; the most recent projects being “Cruel Season” in 2014 and “Four Masters : Four Legends” in 2013 for the Museum of Ventura County and adjudicating and curating the “Santa Barbara Art Roots: Celebrating 60 Years” for Santa Barbara County Arts Council in 2011.
